Under the Historic Cultural Heritage Act 1995, a works application is required for any works or development which may impact on the significance of a place entered in the Tasmanian Heritage Register.
Where proposed works are minor and won't affect the significance of the place, the Heritage Council may provide you with an 'exemption' from the normal works application process.
Discussing your plans with Heritage Tasmania (1300 850 332) before committing to a final design or lodging a works application is strongly encouraged. This provides you an opportunity to pin down your thoughts and seek advice as to which features are of importance to the place.
Consultations with the heritage advisors are free, but an appointment is necessary. Please be patient if waiting to consult us.
