'Tasmania: An Historic Environment' brought together a range of stakeholders representing the heritage sector, including property owners, developers, tourist operators, industry representatives, and government representatives.
The symposium provided cross-fertilisation of ideas with two panel discussions providing owners, developers and small business operators with an opportunity to highlight their experiences as heritage property owners and to discuss current and possible funding opportunities.
Speakers at the symposium included the Minister for Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts, Michelle O'Byrne, the Secretary of the Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts, Scott Gadd, the Chairperson of the Tasmanian Heritage Council, Michael Lynch, Claire Ellis from Tourism Tasmanina, Chris Tassell from the National Trust of Australia (Tasmania), James Shevlin from the Heritage Division of the Australian Government Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, and representatives from the business sector including Don Clark, Andrew Kemp and Robert Rockefeller, Bradley Williams from the Southern Midlands Council, Richard Mackay, author of the Mackay Report, Melinda Percival from the Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts, Louise Archer, co-owner of Brickendon Estate and Professor Roger Fay from the School of Architecture at the University of Tasmania.
