The National Trust is a community based member organisation responsible for the protection and presentation of historic heritage places. In Tasmania it is governed by an Act of Parliament, the National Trust Act 2006, a Board of Management and Managing Director.
The National Trust has a strong, important and recognised international brand and role that has played a critical role in advocating for the retention of many Tasmanian heritage places that would no longer be here without its intervention on behalf of the community.
Today, it is in the process of being remodelled, following a period of administration. It has clearly defined roles, a new and more contemporary governance structure and a focus on presenting heritage, supporting community heritage initiatives and advocacy or lobbying.
